Marvel Universe Black Ronin variant

February 28th, 2011 Comments Off Posted in Marvel Universe

Brian points out that over on Toy Ark,  someone’s found a black variant of the Marvel Universe Ronin figure.  It’s a figure discussed since practically the dawn of the line when a passing reference was made to black and charcoal versions of the figure, but no black Ronin ever appeared.  Until, that is, apparently Wave 12, Rev. 5.  There’s talk about possibly having revised the legs, based upon the figure’s stance, but until someone can open or otherwise inspect the figure it’s all speculation.

Marvel Universe Winter Soldier Variant

July 1st, 2010 Comments Off Posted in Marvel Universe

Over on Toyark the first rumblings of yet another Marvel Universe variant started… the mystery of the Short/Long Hair Winter Soldier.  So far, this is what we know:  the official photo from Hasbro has a short-haired figure, looking like the cardback art and everyone at Toyark appears to have long-haired versions.  TheToon has pointed us to pictures of each one but so far, it doesn’t look like a short-haired version has been spotted in the wild.  Can you provide any insight one way or the other?  If so, hop over to the message board to join in the discussion!

Super Hero Squad Whiplash Variant

June 8th, 2010 Comments Off Posted in Super Hero Squad

Jestergoblin pointed out the orange/brown Super Hero Squad Whiplash variant but leave it to Think to come up with the reason why.  Apparently the Hot Toys version of Whiplash is also going brown, due to some legal issues: “According to Marvel, there are legal implications regarding the orange-color of the pants as shown in the movie. Therefore, the pants’ color in merchandise would vary from that in the movie and would be tuned to brown color accordingly”.

Thanks to JG for noticing the variant, and once again, a tip of the hat to Think for some awesome rumor busting.

Wave 6 Variants

Our thanks goes to member WeaponEversor for the tip about ComicFigs having pictures of MU wave 6 variants!

Apparently there are/are going to be variants/running changes for both Vision and Warpath!

Here you can see Warpath in his normal X-Men uniform (rather than the non-variant X-Force uniform)!

And here you can see the clear, phasing Vision variant!

Both are awesome additions to the MU line! Head over to the board to discuss it!

No Hal Jordan Infinite Heroes variant?

December 18th, 2008 Comments Off Posted in Infinite Heroes, Mattel

Despite the product listing on sites like Big Bad Toy Store stating “2x Hal Jordan, Black Canary, Green Arrow (Hal Jordan Classic Outfit randomly in 20% of cases)”, Mattel’s Q&A with Action Figure Insider says that the only actual variant is the Lex Luthor with blond/brown hair Troopers, and apparently confirming that Jay Garrick and Bizarro are not variants of earlier sets but rather new sets featuring re-packed characters (confirmed by those eBay auctions a few weeks back.

That’s good news for those having trouble finding the Green Lantern set period, let along trying to find a variant. Now if only the Question variant wasn’t so hard to grab, or any figure outside of Wave 1 for that matter.

In other Infinite Heroes news, Big Bad Toy Store did put up a listing for the Teen Titans set, due out in February according to them, with the following information

This new six pack of figures includes the following figures:
1x Raven (fan-requested re-release)
1x Cyborg (new version)
1x Robin (new version)
1x Arsenal (new version)
1x The Brain (new version)
1x Mallah (new version)
Product Number: MAT11449
Shipping Weight: 1.40 pounds

The listing also has artwork depicting the characters (and looks pretty good to boot, and close to the prototypes we’ve already seen). Now, Mattel calling Raven a “fan-requested re-release” is a bit of a stretch, Mallah and the Brain look great, and the $29.99 pre-order price is actually pretty reasonable!
