Paul Dini Redefines Ultimate Spider-Man

August 4th, 2010 Comments Off Posted in Marvel Animated

Paul Dini, known and beloved for his extensive work on shows like Batman the Animated Series, is going to work on redefining Peter Parker for the upcoming Ultimate Spider-Man animated series according to MTV.  The article does a nice round up of the Ultimate Spider-Man news so far, including an explanation of Man of Action’s (the Generator Rex guys) role on the series.

Here’s a quote from Dini that seems to summarize the entire interview:

You also don’t want to repeat the same old tropes. As much as I love elements of Spider-Man’s past, I don’t really want to go back in and retell the Gwen Stacy and Green Goblin story in animation just so I can do my take on it. I don’t want to redo the first Spider Slayer story. I don’t want to redo some of those classic Lee/Romita and Lee/Ditka stories just for the sake of seeing them rendered in animation. For now, I just want to approach Spider-Man with fresh eyes, taking a few things we know about him and just doing a new spin on the concept. I think old-time fans will find what we’ve done with the character to be pretty good and thoughtful, because we’re not out to junk-up Spider-Man. That’s not our intent.

You probably remember seeing Galactus hanging out behind the new Super Hero Squad playset at SDCC 2010, and the good news is that it’ll be on store shelves soon enough. Entertainment Earth is already taking pre-orders for it with it either arriving in October or November, depending on which listing you get first. The listing mentions both Spider-Man and Iron Man, both of whom were displayed with Silver Surfer at SDCC 2010, but hopefully pictures will be available soon to show us which of which wil show up on store shelves.  No word yet on what differences they’ll have from their previously released Super Hero Squad figures.
