Edit: Feel free to follow developments over on the board. It sometimes takes a bit for new news to hit the front page!

Well the dam has finally broken and now there’s tons of SDCC 2009 news and pictures.

Gallery Updates and More

May 3rd, 2009 Comments Off Posted in Infinite Heroes, Marvel Universe

After a gruesome battle with the scanner, we’ve finally got another big Gallery update. First off, for the Infinite Heroes fans out there, scans of the Infinite Heroes single-carded figure card backs. Marvel Universe fans get scans of all 24 Marvel Universe individual character cardbacks from Waves 1 through 3. We’ve started scanning the Masters of the Universe Classics cardbacks for those interested in the new “Classics” mythology. And we’ve also got some X-Men Origins: Wolverine cardbacks up too.

And in other assorted bits, this weekend’s X-Men Origins Wolverine movie inspired us to add a rudimentary checklist for Jollibee fast food premiums, a checklist for Playmates 3.75 inch Terminator Salvation toys, and a calendar of upcoming toy release dates (specifically Marvel Universe, Infinite Heroes and Super Hero Squad), based upon pre-order information.

All those additions bring the gallery up to over 3600 images, with almost 19,000 image views and hopefully all those Infinite Heroes stats will give you something to read until our next big gallery update!

Clanure has started a thread on the board about the recent dry spell between news and releases on… well… just about every toy line anyone collects! Join in if you’ve noticed the dry spell too.

Masters of the Universe Classics Mer-Man sells out in under an hour, for the second time. Collectors that were shut out still mad. I’ve only been locked out of one figure so far, and I fear it’ll happen again, but some people have had worse luck than me. Note to Mattel, the e-commerce server hosting your site just can’t handle the order onslaught. The sooner the figures sell out, the more people feel rushed to rush your site, thus more of an order onslaught. Finding a new e-commerce solution might go a long way to fixing the ill-will.

X-Men Origins Wolverine Cyclops and Iceman figures are apparently hitting stores on the West Coast now. Great news for Marvel Universe fans looking to boost tiher X-Men contingent, bad news for people that hate the leg joints.

TV Shows On DVD has the Hulk-centric cover art for the next volume of Wolverine and the X-Men.

They’ve also apparently got some some-what leaked pencil art for the third volume of the original X-Men animated series DVDs.

Happy Sinking of the Titanic Day to any that celebrate! For the rest of us, let’s take this slow time between toy releases to do another edition of newsclips!

First, some of you may have noticed that we’re slowly adding to our collection of checklists over on the Wiki. Recent additions include Hasbro’s Marvel Attacktix, and Toy Biz’s long-dead but not forgotten X-Men Evolution figures (and their related merchandise like the maquettes, fast food premiums and unreleased toys. Feel free to adopt one of the many abandoned toy lines out there and help with a checklist!

Second, Mattel’s Masters of the Universe Classics Mer-Man sold out in under an hour. Didn’t get one? You and a bunch of other angry folks over on the Matty Collector Facebook page insisting that Mattel engaged in some kind of insidious geographic preference. Scrolling through the messages, you’ll see allegations of customer service telling international customers the wrong time zone, European shipments getting error figures they can’t return and other accusations of geocentrism. Mattel has yet to officially address the situation, other than their repeated explanations that more Mer-Men are on the way. As for the allegations, even US buyers had issues with the site, including its notoriously buggy Digital River ordering system. While you’d think being there as soon as the Add To Cart button came up would guarantee a slot, the servers froze and buckled for all of us. As for allegations of double charging (did you hit the reload button when you thought the server/your order wasn’t going through?) and of a shopping cart zero-loop (your shopping cart keeps emptying), it may be evil pro-US-ness, but it may also just be the same poor website that locks up and has numerous bugs reported every MOTUC release day. Hopefully Mattel will get the bugs fixed soon, but in the meantime, hopefully they address the rampant allegations and accusations.

In happier news, Hasbrotoyshop continues business as usual (perhaps in part to never revealing when it’s going to add new product, although that would just make MOTUC collectors even more upset, but a search for “Squad” will reveal that the Hulk/Abomination, Hulk/Silver Savage, and Wolverine/Psylocke sets are going for $4.99, while the Genius of Tony Stark, and Crimson Dynamo Attacks sets are now $7.99, the Sand Pit Standoff is $5.99, the Iron Man Hall of Armor is down to $8.99, Gamma Lab is at $19.99, and the first Collector’s Pack is down to $17.99.

Did we miss some news? Most likely! Tell us about it on the board.

Misadventures in Q&As

April 1st, 2009 Comments Off Posted in Infinite Heroes, Justice League Unlimited, Mattel

One problems with Q&As is that sometimes you end up getting a question answered with an obvious lie. For one example, let’s look at this Cool Toy Review Q&A:

Cool Toy Review: At one of the recent conventions you had mentioned that you are looking at other ways to release Hal Jordan in the Justice League line, any updates yet?

Mattel: Not yet, but we are talking to DC about different possible ways to release a Hal.

And then a few hours later Cool Toy Review puts out the list of Mattel SDCC exclusives including:

Justice League Unlimited Green Lantern Origins Three Pack

“At long last Hal Jordan will be joining Mattel’s Justice League Unlimited collection. In this pack, you can get not only Hal Jordan (in his trademark Ferris Aircraft flight suit) but also his predecessor Abin Sur and his mentor/arch enemy Sinestro both in different versions of their Green Lantern uniforms. Plus, as an added bonus, for the first time in the JLU line, all of the heads in this pack are swappable, letting you play out Hal’s transformation from Test Pilot to Green Lantern of Space Sector 2814! Available on MattyCollector.com after the show.”

Geez Mattel, you couldn’t just say “we hope to have details soon” or “we love Hal and hope to get him to fans soon”? Oh, and in other news from the Q&A, He-Ro is coming as an SDCC exclusive for the Masters of the Universe Classics line, all those major characters missing from Infinite Heroes (Hawkgirl, Aquaman, Riddler, Red Tornado) are planned for release “in time”, and Mattel says they plan to re-do the articulation on previously released Infinite Heroes figures “in time”. As for the big Super Friends figures… the future looks bleak because when asked if there will be figures beyond Cyborg (specifically Joker and Robin, and not to mention the Hawkman they’ve previously said they were going to re-release without the lollipop-looking mace) they say:

Mattel: At this point the Super Friends line will be continuing as an Imaginex line in the Fisher Price aisle. We know there are a lot of adult collectors out there looking to make a larger 6” collection, but right now, our 6” line will be focused on the DC Universe Classics style. At the end of the day we have a limit on the number of figures we can do and we have some new exciting styles we are working on which we hope fans will be just as excited about.

In other Q&As, they reiterate their desire for better articulation and more accessories in the Infinite Heroes Line at Kastor’s Korner, and the revisiting previously released Infinite Heroes figures with better articulation is also asked at Poe Ghostals. On the plus side, pretty nice pictures of He-Ro and the Anti-Monitor are up at the Mattycollector Facebook page

Gallery updated, again

March 10th, 2009 Comments Off Posted in Combat Heroes, Super Hero Squad, Time Squad

And there are more, many, many more, additions to the Gallery! I just finished adding the Best Buy Exclusive Wonder Woman and some comparison shots to the Infinite Heroes section, and Gambit and Deadpool to the X-Men Origins Wolverine section.

Clanure, however has been far more productive and has added Crossbones to the Super Hero Squad, the SDCC 2008 exclusive Snake Eyes to Combat Heroes, and some packaged shots to M-Pire.

Meanwhile, there’s also some new additions to the Visitor’s Gallery that are worth checking out. All these pictures up the collection to almost 2750, with over 11,600 image views!

In other news, the Wiki has seen a lot of activity this week. Clanure has made a checklist and is busy with profiles for M-Pire, and I’ve done some small updates to the Super Hero Squad profiles, and updating the Masters of the Universe Classics and Time Squad checklists (with profiles coming soon), and adding a short profile on Captain America to our comic book character profiles. And as always, additions to the wiki are more than welcome.
