Batman: Under the Red Hood Exclusive Figurine
Best Buy continues it’s new trend of exclusive DC Direct-To-DVD movie figurine pack-ins (Hal Jordan was packed with Justice League: New Frontier, Owlman with A Crisis on Two Earths) with a Red Hood figurine packed in with the upcoming Batman: Under the Red Hood DVD. Meanwhile, reviews have started. Head over to the message board to discuss this and other DC direct-to-DVD movies
Upcoming DC Animated Black Adam, Green Lantern and Batman features
Apparently the engine of DC Direct to DVD movies continues to move forward (compare that with Marvel, whose next DVD is 2011′s Thor, Son of Asgard) with a collection of the DC Showcase short films starring the Spectre, Jonah Hex and Green Arrow, together with a new film Superman/Shazam!: The Return of Black Adam, which according to Comics Continuum will run an extended 22 minutes. That, combined with the Batman Year One film (with Comics Continuum’s later update) and Green Lantern Emerald Nights, means that DC has already matched Marvel’s direct-to-DVD effort, in less time (DC started their film offerings in 2007, Marvel in 2006) and have more in the pipeline. Hopefully Jeph Loeb will be giving DC more of a challenge.
Mutant X Season 1 back on DVD
Fans of Marvel’s old X-Factor replacement title Mutant X, featuring the alternate universe adventures of Havok, may have resented the syndicated Mutant X television series for stealing the name, but it had some ok moments and, unfortunately, none of the Marvel connections. Although it enjoyed a few Marvel Comics one-shots, the series was basically a universe all to its own, and then subsequently locked away. The DVDs have been out of print for a while, but, for Canadians, season 1 is coming back into print!
Superman/Batman Apocalypse Cover Art
Super Hero Hype has cover art of the upcoming Superman/Batman: Apocalypse direct to DVD movie, including the DVD short film featuring Green Arrow. Box art shows the movie to continue adapting the Superman/Batman series by moving into the Darkseid/Supergirl storyline. Should DC and Mattel proceed with a toyline a la Public Enemies there are some great possible figures, like Darkseid, an updates Supergirl and Wonder Woman, Artemis, the Female Furies, Doomsday (in a fashion). Of course, that also depends on those characters getting translated into the movie. Head over to the message board to discuss.
Marvel Knights Animation on DVD
Although a few of Marvel’s Motion Comics have been released on DVD, albeit, as backup features on other releases, it looks like Shout Factory, the folks releasing the Super Hero Squad show in the US, are going to be releasing what’s being called “Marvel Knights Animation”. Meanwhile, Marvel has ads this week focusing on their newest endeavor: Iron Man Extremis. The motion comics may not strike everyone, but they’re still something to add to your DVD collection!
