Ask Matty February 1, 2012 – Action League Vehicles and the future of 3.75 Inch DC

February 1st, 2012 Comments Off Posted in Action League, DC, Mattel

Expecting some 3.75 inch love from DC at Toy Fair? Think again! But apparently we can expect to see what Dark Knight Rises toys! If you’d like to ask some questions, ask them over in the Ask Matty thread

1) Considering the number and variety of vehicles already produced for the Brave and the Bold line, is there any chance that some of these will be repurposed or re-released as part of the DC Universe line?

No, not at this time.

2) The DCU All-Star figures revealed so far have been an unusual combination of apparent repaints and figures requiring minimal tooling. Would larger waves allow more unique sculpts?

There will be some figures with more tooling and others with less depending on the best execution for each character.

3) Can we expect any news about the future of DC’s 3.75 plans at the upcoming Toy Fair?

No. We do not have a DC 3 3/4″ line planned at this time. Maybe down the road.

4) With Dark Knight Rises coming this summer, what product lines can consumers expect to see? 6 inch? 3.75 inch? Action League?

We will have this to announce at NYTF.

5) With a fresh slate of DC direct-to-DVD animated movies coming out this year, can we expect any Mattel tie-ins like either the Public Enemies line, or the one-off retailer exclusive figure pack-ins?

At this time, no we do not have plans for this in out 2012 lines.

Mattel Q&A June 15, 2011

June 16th, 2011 Comments Off Posted in Uncategorized

1) With DC comics undergoing a massive reboot/redesign, how long will action figure fans have to wait to see the new costumes on action figures?

It can take anywhere from 6 months to 2 years to go from a visual look to a new toy.

2) Is there any possibility of the WWE Legends series making it to the UK or Ireland?

WWE figures are available world wide. It is up to reach local retailer to placed orders. If you are not seeing your favorite toy line locally, ask to talk to your toy store manager. Mattel can only ship product to those who order it.

3) Is there any truth that the Legends series is being cancelled?

Legends are an integral part of WWE and Mattel will continue to include them in our line. We’ll be announcing our specific plans for 2012 at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con in July.

4) How many pre-orders would you need to guarantee a Death/Constantine/Swamp Thing Action League 3-pack? Seriously. Let us know.

Sorry, this is not information we share with the public.

5) What’s the latest news on Masters of the Universe Classics vehicles?

You will see the fall 2011 vehicle on display at SDCC.

Ask Matty 1/15/11 – New DCUC 5-pack, Rumblers, Young Justice News

January 15th, 2011 Comments Off Posted in Action League, DC Universe Classics, Mattel

Although our question about the Action League versus WWE Rumblers didn’t quite get the response I was hoping for (the question was more of a “why do they get all the good stuff!” question), the DCUC 5-pack answer gives us lots to look forward to!

1) Although it’s still early, what are the chances of Young Justice getting the 3.75 inch or Action League treatment?

We will have to see how the 4 ¼-inch line and 6-inch line does before expanding to other scales.

2) If the C&C Hall of Justice is a success, can we expect other display backdrops/set pieces in various lines such as a JLA meeting room, Batcave computer, Fortress of Solitude, or Legion of Doom headquarters?

Certainly a possibility, but we will need to see how the first figures do before announcing any other plans.

3) In a previous Q&A, you mentioned the number of launch pieces for WWE Rumblers, including single packs, accessories, and sets but it seems the DC Universe Action League is launching with a relative whimper… 4 two-packs that are just starting to trickle out via online retailers. Can you help us understand why the WWE Rumblers are getting such a push, while Action League is relatively quiet?

Action League will be at all the major retailers, like most collector product, it just tends to hit online first. Look for it everywhere in 2011!

4) Presumably you’ve had a little time to evaluate how well the DCUC 5-packs featuring the Gotham villains and Green Lanterns have done… will there be any future DCUC 5-packs?

Yes. These packs have done well and will continue in 2011 with an-all new pack to be announced at NYTF at our collector night on Feb 13 from 3-6pm. This pack will have five all-new figures. One of which is a new version of a previous character and the other four have never been in the DCUC line before.

5) With MOTUC doing well, and Ghostbusters chugging along, are there any other toy lines you’re considering for subscription treatment?

Right now it is only these two.

So head on over to our Ask Matty thread to jump in with some new questions!

Ask Matty 12/1/10 – WWE Rumblers, Action League, MOTUC

Lots of good answers today, including a rundown of the WWE Rumblers launch assortment, why we won’t be seeing Orko for a while, and what’s stopping the Batmobile.  Head over to our message board to discuss!

1) The WWE Rumblers line appears to have a nice mix of figures and
playsets/accessories. Can you give us a run-down of what sets are going
to be available at launch?

Available at Launch:

Rumblers Two-Packs Assortment:
John Cena and Sheamus
Triple H and Shawn Michaels
CM Punk and R Truth
Rey Mysterio and John Morrison

Rumblers Figure + Accessory Assortment:
Ladder Match Playset with John Morrison
Casket Match Playset with Undertaker

Rumblers Figure + Deluxe Accessory Assortment:
Steel Cage with Rey Mysterio

Rumblers Blast & Bash Battle Ring with John Cena and Sheamus

Rumblers Singles Assortment (Alternate Channels Only):
Undertaker
Kofi Kingston
John Cena
CM Punk
Triple H
Rey Mysterio

2) Now that we’re getting closer, can you tell us who’s in the first
wave of DC Universe Action League?

This was announced at SDCC. The first wave will have Superman vs.
Bizzaro, Firestorm vs Deathstorm, The Flash vs Captain Boomerang and
White Lantern Sinestro vs Hal Jordan.

3) Several of the unreleased Batman: The Brave and the Bold Action
League figures were very show-specific, using looks from specific
episodes or aspects of the show (Green Lantern Batman, Solomon Grundy,
mutated Batman), so how would figures like this be incorporated into the
DCU Action League?

DCU Action League will not be based on the show Batman: Brave and the
Bold, but rather on the comic look from the monthly issues out on racks!

4) Any news on when Orko and Prince Adam might be re-released?

Likely not for awhile. He just had a major release at an international
convention and we will want to rest him for some time. He will likely be
back in time.

5) What has to happen before Mattel will commit to a DCUC scale
Batmobile, assuming of course, logistics regarding Batman’s cape could
be worked out?

It is more of an issue of tooling vs. how many units we could sell.
Based on the current sell-through of standard 6-inch DCUC figures, the
audience (customer base) is just not large enough right now to justify
the large amount of tooling an item like this would take. Maybe one day!

Ask Matty October 15, 2010 – Green Lantern, Attitubes, Infinite Heroes and Comic Packs

October 1st, 2010 Comments Off Posted in Infinite Heroes, Mattel

1) It looks like the Infinite Heroes Kingdom Come Captain Atom is a Toys R Us Exclusive, at least according to the sticker seen on eBay auctions, but what’s the status of the new Captain Marvel action figure also seen on cardbacks?

There are a few IH figures that are a bit in limbo right now waiting for retailer commitments. As soon as we have confirmation of retailers interested in taking product we will announce them to fans!

2) New Infinite Heroes female articulation was shown on Ravager and Wonder Woman, but will we be seeing elbow joints any time soon?

We are looking forward to getting more articulation for both male and female figures but, again, we need retailer commitments before moving forward with more product.

3) You’ve shown the Attitubes a couple times now, but do you have any update on when a line might be available for purchase?

So far, there has only been lukewarm interest from fans. If there is enough interest we would love to move forward with these fun guys! What say you fans?

4) We already know that Green Lantern is going to be getting a 6 inch line, and at SDCC you mentioned that it’ll have a 3.75 inch presence, but will that be it for Mattel’s Green Lantern offerings?

Hardly! There will be a ton of great GL product in 2011 including some Retro Action figures announced at SDCC for Mattycollector.com. More will be announced as we get closer to the film.

5) You’ve heard it before, you’ll hear it again: what’re the chances of comic packs for any of your lines?

Always something we are looking into and an execution we did offer in the DCSH line in 2006 and 2007. No plans to revisit right now, but you never know. Stay tuned.

DCUC Wave 15 and new JLU Singles

May 17th, 2010 Comments Off Posted in DC Universe Classics, JLU, Justice League Unlimited

Mattycollector.com has some great press pictures of DCUC Wave 15 and the newest JLU singles, including Superman with a Starro spore, John Stewart as Power Ring, Barry Allen Flash, Mr. Terrific and the single-carded Batman Beyond! DCUC is essentially a confirmation of prior rumors, but it’s so nice to see them:

* Golden Pharaoh — Complete your “Super Powers” collection! Golden Pharaoh is armed with his Pyramid Power staff and rocks a transparent purple torso and collar.
* Classic Starman –Traditional version of Starman is well equipped with his Cosmic Rod and a Stellar Energy Pistol. Celestial crime fighting was never so much fun!
* Modern Starman — The updated version of Starman lands with his trusty Cosmic Rod and features contemporary translucent parts.
* OMAC — He’s not bad, he’s just built that way! Cyborg OMAC is rendered in dramatic detail in his first outing as an action figure.
* Martian Manhunter — Two versions will be released, so it’ll be your turn to hunt the hunter for both the standard figure and the hard-to-find chase version with Martian head and “weapon” hand!
* Raven — Stunning and smart, the Fan’s Choice winner comes to life as a magnificent action figure.
* Sinestro Corps Batman — Commemorating his near-indoctrination into the dark side, our hero comes with a transparent Batarang ring construct.
* Jemm – We’re fairly certain the Injustice Gang has their eye on MattyCollector.com as the Son of Saturn gets ready to make his first-ever appearance as an action figure.
* Validus — Collect all 7 figures above to create this fearsome 9” Collect and Connect™ figure! Validus arrives with a crystal-clear head dome to reveal his heinously huge brain.
