There’s been a lot of random oddball television news so maybe it’s time for a run-down…

First off, on the Brave and the Bold/Scooby Doo team-up, a throwback to the original, uch loved and fondly remembered Scooby Doo story of days gone by, will be titled “Bat-Mite Presents: Batman’s Strangest Cases” according to Comics Continuum.

CC also reports that Brave and the Bold returns with the Starro two parter on September 17. Those with iTunes or having seen the episode using thier cable or satellite provider’s on-demand services should not spoil the ending because that was the best part of any Batman Brave and the Bold episode so far.

The first season of Human Target, based on the DC Comics series will be out on September 21.

And finally, talk of the Sandman series on HBO becomes just a bit closer according to MTV’s Splash Page

You might have seen some of the discussion online about a certain toy retailer’s decision to charge $200 for a variant Marvel Universe Iron Patriot with Norman Osborn head, but as news of the price started circulating, so too did reports of sightings (as you’ll see in the above thread).

It is apparently being shipped in cases out now, and while some sites are attempting to justify their sponsor’s decision to charge 20 times what the non-variant goes for, and about 25 times the retail price, by saying that nobody knows how rare this figure is or will be, it seems unlikely that with so many sightings in such a short period, and with the justifiable backlash against the jacked up $200 rate, that the figure will really command that much on the secondary market.

Now head on over to the board’s thread to weigh in on the controversy.

Last year Marvel put out a variety of variant covers for their mainstream books featuring Super Hero Squad Show recreations of classic cover moments and it looks like this year they’re doing it again with:

Avengers 5

Daredevil 510

Invincible Iron Man 30

Namor: The First Mutant 2

New Avengers 4.

So while the choice of books may be… uhm… interesting (Namor versus underwater vampires? Daredevil, which is in the middle of a major crossover where he and his ninja cohorts murder, abduct and engage the dark arts in soul-bending resurrections), presumably the covers, like last years’, also double as the title cards for the Super Hero Squad Show episodes. The covers shown all seem to coincide with what we already know about the upcoming season, including Namor’s Invaders cover featuring Bucky, Torch and Toro; Iron Man’s cover with Nebula and Annihilus; Daredevil’s Daredevil-less cover where Scarlet Witch faces down Thanos; and the Avengers cover featuring Hercules.

Both Marvel and DC are hitting DVD shelves hard with new and upcoming releases so we thought we’d do a little round-up of today’s news.

First off, TV Shows on DVD has the box art for the Super Hero Squad Show second volume DVD, coming out on November 9, 2010. Target shoppers know that Target has an in-store exclusive set out right now with the complete first 13 episodes of the series so that might save you some money in the long run.

Later in November, November 30th to be exact, you can pick up the Iron Man Extremis motion comic from Marvel Knights Animation and Shout! Factory.

If motion comics are your thing, The Trades has a DVD review of the Astonishing X-Men: Gifted, featuring the initial Breakworld storyline from Joss Whedon’s Astonishing X-Men run. September 30th is the release date for that motion comic.

If you don’t feel like waiting, you can grab Batman: Brave and the Bold Season 1, volume 1, collecting the first 13 episodes on 2 DVDs and released today.

And of course, you can also complete your collection of Wolverine and the X-Men (assuming you didn’t hold out for a US release of the season set, or import one from Canada) with volume 6, also released today.

As always, head on over to the message board to discuss.

Lots of great answers in this round of Ask Matty, as we plumb the depths of Mattel’s mind:

1) One of SDCC’s big reveals was the DC Universe Action League figures. Do you have estimated release dates or information on what will be in the first waves?

DC Universe Action League will be out in late fall 2010.

2) Back in August 2009, in a Q&A with AFI, female figures were discussed, but now a year later we still haven’t seen any. Are they still on the slate for either Brave and the Bold: AL or DCU:AL?

We will not get to females in the Brave and the Bold Action League, but do have plans to do so in the DC Universe Action League line! A female has already been sculpted!

3) Infinite Heroes fans and collectors have been getting mixed messages about the line: some Q&As suggest that the line is in danger, some Q&As suggest that big things are coming. Now that SDCC has come and gone and no new figures were shown, what does that say about the future of the line?

As announced at our SDCC DCU fan panel, the 3 ¾” line will continue in 2011 with a Green Lantern theme. We need to wait until we have retailer commitments before announcing further details to fans.

4) Regular MOTUC figures have been re-released, but will the weapons packs or larger figures like Tytus ever get re-released?

Yes. Battle Cat and Tytus have been scheduled for a re-release as have the Grayskull stands. No re-release plans for the Ultimate Battle Ground Weapon Pak yet, but maybe in time.

5) Now that we’ve got Action League style DC figures and WWE figures, can we expect to see the Masters of the Universe license get the Action League treatment soon?

Definitely something we’d love to do. Time will tell! .

Now head over to the Ask Matty section of the message board to help us come up with some new questions!
