Marvel Universe News Rundown

There’s a couple new developments in the Marvel Universe world this week to keep everyone hunting!

First, the Power Man/Iron Fist and Spider-Man/Captain Britain comic packs are out and have been sighted by Toyark members.

And as Jabalong and Brian point out, people in Manilla have already started finding Marvel Universe Wave 16 featuring Tony Stark Iron Man, Iceman, Absorbing Man, Astonishing Wolverine and Magneto (or should it be Ultimate Magneto?)

And then Marvelousnews points out that the Toys R Us Avengers Assemble sets have been spotted.  At $20, for what so far looks to be repaints that each come with an identical stand, the complete set of 8 needed to make the light-up “SHIELD” stand will set you back $160, not counting tax.  The back shows Thor, Hulk, Iron Man, “Bucky Cap”, while MN speculates that Wave 2 is Steve Rogers Captain America, Hawkeye, Black Widow and Black Panther.  Good guesses since we see a bow, a shield and a big-haired lady, but the thin silhouette of the remaining character doesn’t quite look like the Panther to me.  No cape means no Vision, but maybe Spider-Man?  Hopefully we’ll find out soon.

May 2011 Hasbro Q&A – Super Hero Squad is retailer exclusive

1) What is the future of the Super Hero Squad action line now that all but one of the announced movie theme packs have been released, as have most of the announced 2-packs?

Super Hero Squad is becoming a retail exclusive program this Fall.

2) Several Iron Man 2 figures either never saw a release (specifically the unmasked Tony and Rhodey, movie Black Widow), or saw limited release (Ultimate Iron Man, Mandarin, Comic Whiplash, Comic Iron Monger), so are there any plans to incorporate these into either the Armored Avengers line
or Marvel Universe line?

No there are no plans.  Unfortunately, these items were dropped from the line.  We will work to include these characters in future lines where possible.

3) Although you only had limited time to prepare, will there be more X-Men First Class merchandise in addition to the two 3.75 inch figures?

That’s a possibility.  Keep your eyes peeled for more news to come.

Thor Movie Odin Variant!

Brian pointed out a pretty nice variant, and the first so far, from the current Thor movie action figure lines.  As you can tell from his picture, one Odin has gold armor and grey hair, as opposed to the silver armor and white hair.  The gold armor would be my preferred figure, in part because there’s so much detail, like gold on the arms, the different tones of the chest piece.  Overall, a really wonderful improvement on the figure.

Regan’s Reviews Round-Up

Brian’s back with a slew of reviewy goodness.

First up, he’s organized the Marvel Universe Hall of Fame, which features full reviews of the winners of every poll (one per wave) done so far, and it’s quite the laundry list.  The biggest surprise is how many absolutely awesome figures have come out of this still relatively young line!

Of course, he also includes his review of the Marvel Comics Digital Exclusive Archangel figure, the latest poll winner.
