More Super Hero Squad Variant Covers

August 23rd, 2010 Comments Off Posted in Marvel, Marvel Animated, Super Hero Squad

Last year Marvel put out a variety of variant covers for their mainstream books featuring Super Hero Squad Show recreations of classic cover moments and it looks like this year they’re doing it again with:

  • Avengers 5
  • Daredevil 510
  • Invincible Iron Man 30
  • Namor: The First Mutant 2
  • New Avengers 4.
  • So while the choice of books may be… uhm… interesting (Namor versus underwater vampires? Daredevil, which is in the middle of a major crossover where he and his ninja cohorts murder, abduct and engage the dark arts in soul-bending resurrections), presumably the covers, like last years’, also double as the title cards for the Super Hero Squad Show episodes. The covers shown all seem to coincide with what we already know about the upcoming season, including Namor’s Invaders cover featuring Bucky, Torch and Toro; Iron Man’s cover with Nebula and Annihilus; Daredevil’s Daredevil-less cover where Scarlet Witch faces down Thanos; and the Avengers cover featuring Hercules.

    Marvel and DC DVD Round-Up!

August 17th, 2010 Comments Off Posted in DC Animated, Marvel Animated, Super Hero Squad

Both Marvel and DC are hitting DVD shelves hard with new and upcoming releases so we thought we’d do a little round-up of today’s news.

First off, TV Shows on DVD has the box art for the Super Hero Squad Show second volume DVD, coming out on November 9, 2010. Target shoppers know that Target has an in-store exclusive set out right now with the complete first 13 episodes of the series so that might save you some money in the long run.

Later in November, November 30th to be exact, you can pick up the Iron Man Extremis motion comic from Marvel Knights Animation and Shout! Factory.

If motion comics are your thing, The Trades has a DVD review of the Astonishing X-Men: Gifted, featuring the initial Breakworld storyline from Joss Whedon’s Astonishing X-Men run. September 30th is the release date for that motion comic.

If you don’t feel like waiting, you can grab Batman: Brave and the Bold Season 1, volume 1, collecting the first 13 episodes on 2 DVDs and released today.

And of course, you can also complete your collection of Wolverine and the X-Men (assuming you didn’t hold out for a US release of the season set, or import one from Canada) with volume 6, also released today.

As always, head on over to the message board to discuss.

Computer Generated Green Lantern Cartoon, and Maybe Batman Too?

August 9th, 2010 Comments Off Posted in DC Animated, Marvel Animated

Comics Continuum is posting news that the upcoming Green Lantern animated series won’t tie into the movie and will be computer generated, as will (possibly) the Batman follow-up to Brave and the Bold. Other tidbits include: Jim Krieg is the story editor for that Green Lantern cartoon, and that Hal Jordan, Kilowog and a Red Lantern will anchor it.

In unrelated news, they’ve also posted an interview with Cort Lane regarding the upcoming second season of Iron Man Armored Adventures so head over there to view the news, and head over to our message board to discuss!

Super Hero Squad Season 1 on DVD. In Canada.

August 5th, 2010 Comments Off Posted in Marvel Animated, Super Hero Squad

Canadians were the first to get the complete Wolverine and the X-Men animated series, and now they’re the first to get the complete Super Hero Squad Season 1 which, according to TVShows on DVD will be out on September 28 for $29.98 Canadian.  Dear the US: Please stop buying volume 1 through Eleventy of a series because it only encourages rights holders to release a handful of episodes on DVD at a time, and that sucks.  Head over to the message board to discuss.

    Paul Dini Redefines Ultimate Spider-Man

August 4th, 2010 Comments Off Posted in Marvel Animated

Paul Dini, known and beloved for his extensive work on shows like Batman the Animated Series, is going to work on redefining Peter Parker for the upcoming Ultimate Spider-Man animated series according to MTV.  The article does a nice round up of the Ultimate Spider-Man news so far, including an explanation of Man of Action’s (the Generator Rex guys) role on the series.

Here’s a quote from Dini that seems to summarize the entire interview:

You also don’t want to repeat the same old tropes. As much as I love elements of Spider-Man’s past, I don’t really want to go back in and retell the Gwen Stacy and Green Goblin story in animation just so I can do my take on it. I don’t want to redo the first Spider Slayer story. I don’t want to redo some of those classic Lee/Romita and Lee/Ditka stories just for the sake of seeing them rendered in animation. For now, I just want to approach Spider-Man with fresh eyes, taking a few things we know about him and just doing a new spin on the concept. I think old-time fans will find what we’ve done with the character to be pretty good and thoughtful, because we’re not out to junk-up Spider-Man. That’s not our intent.

Now head over to the message board to discuss!
