Ask Matty 4/15/11 – WWE Build and Brawl, DC Universe Action League

April 15th, 2011 Comments Off Posted in Action League, DC Mini, Masters of the Universe, Mattel

1) Any plans to follow up on Jakks build and brawl line now that you have the WWE license ?

We are indeed looking to introduce the 1/18 scale into our line but of course we will do it in a new way rather than follow up on what a previous manufacturer did.

2) Will the Imaginext Robin ever get his cape?  He looks kinda silly with the molded cape around his shoulders but no cloth cape on his back.

We will pass this along to the Imaginex team at Fisher Price. Thanks for the suggestion! Sorry we don’t have a confirmed answer at this time.

3) With some toylines, there’s a lot of obvious planning such as drafting the MOTUC biographies for many characters who might never even get figures.  How far in advance do you guys plan for lines like DCUC or DCU Action League?

We have the line roughly thought out a for a few years, but as we are not the “owner” of DC we need to work with our license partners each year on which characters they want to see on shelf as well.

4) I don’t think anyone’s asked this in a while: Is there any possibility that me might see a 3.75 line of Masters of the Universe?

Always possible but nothing is planned right now.

5) Other than Walmart’s Green Lantern DCU Action League figures, are there any other retailer exclusive Action League figures in the works?

Yes, there will be more Action League exclusives. Stay tuned at SDCC for more!

Mattel Q&A April 1, 2011 – Toy Story Buddies, 3.75 inch SA Hal and more!

Toy Story fans rejoice because there will be as many as 8 all new characters in the Toy Story Buddies line this year! Head on over to the Ask Matty thread to pose your questions for the next Mattel Q&A.

1) Now that Toy Fair has come and gone, can you give us more insight into the future of the Toy Story Buddies? Other than a Dolly and a grimacing Lotsa, not a lot of new product was shown, leaving fans to wonder if the line is nearing its end and whether there will be product related to the upcoming short films.

We love the buddy segment and will be supporting it in 2011 with tons of new characters. As I am sure you know, in 2010 the line was focused exclusively on TS3 characters. In 2011 we will be introducing as many as 8 all new characters, including one of Sids toys and a Spanish Buzz! We will also be going back into the archive to pull out characters that were not available last year!

2) Will we see any other Disney or Disney/Pixar properties represented in a Buddies or Action League format?

Right now we do not have any to announce beyond the Toy Story figures from the Disney team. Stay tuned!

3) Many 3.75 inch collectors have waited patiently for DC related news only to be disappointed in the less articulated Green Lantern figures. Is there be a more collector oriented line of 3.75 DC figures, either Green Lantern or not, coming?

The collector line for GL is in the 6” scale. The 3 ¾”line is our kid line and to keep the SRP at $6.99 we had to go with kid style articulation. But we are working on trying to find a way to do at least one really great SA Hal figure in this scale down the road. Toy Guru is determined!

4) With Young Justice figures that ship with a veritable mini-playset, and Green Lantern Classics having a three-pack of smaller characters, can we expect the DCUC line to experiment with multiple smaller characters for instance, including Brain as an accessory or Gizmo or Damian Wayne as the alternative to a BAF piece?

Yes, this is something we are looking into, but nothing to confirm right now.

5) DCUC has recently unveiled the “Super Friends”, and of course Batman Beyond and the Public Enemies styling have been represented previously, so does this mean that other DC Animated styles and original characters are possibilities? For instance, characters or designs from the Teen Titans animated series, or Justice League?

We do have access to these, but right now our animated line will focus on Young Justice.

Wiki Updates

July 13th, 2009 Comments Off Posted in DC Animated, DC Mini, Super Hero Squad

Given the slow newsweek, we’ve been able to catch up on revisions to the Rumorbuster Wiki, so in case you haven’t had a chance, you can see the most recent updates to the unreleased/unproduced Super Hero Squad figure section (updated with snowflake Iceman, new pants Hulk, silver Ultimate Captain America, and loose shots of Kraven and black Costume Spider-Man), the new Brave and the Bold Action League checklist and an early draft of our newly revised Rumorbuster Index (which long time readers may remember started on Rumorbuster 1.0 as essentially a set of FAQs). So hopefully some of that will pique your interest and keep you entertained until some new news comes out.

DC Mini = DC Super Hero Squad?

February 6th, 2009 Comments Off Posted in DC Mini

Short? Stylized? Awesome, but these DC Mini figures don’t quite make that Super Hero Squad style (they’re designed after Brave and the Bold) but it still looks pretty fun. I wonder how long before we’ll be able to get a legitimate side-by-side comparison. I see Green Arrow, Red Tornado, Gentleman Ghost (and horse), Batman, Blue Beetle, Plastic Man, Kanjar Ro, Beetle with gun hands, Jet Pack Batman, the back of Aquaman, a Batmobile, and an Atom. Looks like fun!
