Doctor Who (Time Squad)
« on: January 14, 2010, 07:58:14 PM »

I'm really surprised we didn't already have a thread about this, but some of the old figures are being re-released (possibly repainted, though I don't have any to compare) with a build-a-figure of the Master, which is awesome.

As a guy that's got to have all the sets in a wave, I wouldn't mind Super Hero Squad adopting BAF's for SHS as a way to get an extra character into each wave, but I can only imagine the problem with paint applications, pieces that don't assemble correctly, and worse, people having to collect packs they hate just to finally assemble their very own Darkhawk.

This would be a good idea for characters who are only marginally bigger than the normal characters. Sasquatch comes to mind.  Maybe Sauron.

Dude you find the craziest things, :D Hellboy mini's I saw on the SDCC wrap up on G4 but Tiny Terros, and this is something I wouldn't have expected.
Yeah, I like to pick and choose when it comes to SHS. I don't generally buy every character but I have a great deal of them(actually my son does, I just live vicariously through him), yet I would love it they did do a build-a-figure kind of thing.
I had actually thought that it would be cool if Mattel or Hasbro would give you an exclusive figure, like hasbro does for Littlest Pet shop figures, if you bought the whole set or if you have proof of purchase of various figures.
These Dr. Who figures are cool, but saddly I need to cut back on spending, otherwise I would be collecting various toy lines and toys.

I still prefer my figures to be factory assembled. And I can't figure out how Master would be split in six pieces. There's like four, five if his right arm is articulated.

But the beauty of the Time Squad figures is how well they'd fit in as either Mos Eisley extras or silly D-list superhero villains. Lots of cool character designs, which is what any line like this needs to suck in casual buyers.

I bet it's: Head, Legs, Left Arm, Right Arm, Front Torso, Back Torso (these last two snapping together to hold the head and limbs.

I originally thought maybe the figures were going to be announced as 3 2-packs, so it'd be torso/head, legs, and arms in separate packs, but apparently even the promo materials say there's six parts.  You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login

I'd go with RRNN's torso theory.  It makes sense, and it avoids the awkward question of how do you get the arms in the holes.  Asking collectors to open their figures and then asking them to boil and pop all the pieces... that just seemed like a complicated set of instructions to give the casual purchasers.

Its funny I have not watched Dr Who since the late 70's when it used to frighten the crap out of me (stop laughing) and when i saw these on Tesco's shelves I bought them purely for the Daleks ;)  Then realised they fit perfectly with GH and SHS.

I already had the 3 packs of 5 figures and didn't even know about the BAF until now !! Looks to be some marginal differences from the figures i have. Some have slight changes in eye shape others added detailing but all look the same colours.

Ordered the set of 6 today so will put up a pic when they land.

I'm not laughing. Dr. Who scared the shit into my pants when I was a kid. I watch it now occasionally as a weird nostalgic self-torture (and because the most recent iterration of the show isn't too bad, honestly.

But the Cyber-Men and Daleks always scared me half to death.

LOL first time I ever admitted to this and now i find i may not have been alone :)

I distinctly remember feeling the hairs on the back of my neck stand up within seconds of hearing the opening music.

Pictures of the BAF set along with the differences i could spot from the original 5 packs (which were small).

New sculpt on Cyberman head with wider chin + new black detailing.
Very slight eye shape change on the Doctor.
Teeth drawn in and detailing on the Sentoran body armour.

Other 3 figs looked identical.

TheTooN,

As our resident Brit, what's the distribution like on these?  Are they easy to get?  I'm interested in a set, but I also want the 3 5-packs and 6 2-packs too.  Any chance of tracking those down (besides on evilBay)?
