I never really understood why a winged rest-home escapee was a credible threat to Spider-Man. I think if they went the 2099 approach and made him a brutish, homicidal, cannibalistic gang leader then it might make me perk up and grab my attention.

He was cannibalistic in Spider-Man Noir, too.

I never saw Vulture as a threat to Spider-Man, just someone that the Spider-Man always ended up having to take down.

Like Vulture had no choice to commit his crimes using his Vulture motif because it was really all he had, and he would have no problem going against Captain America or Elektra, but they never happened to be in the same midtown Manhattan banks as Spider-Man.

But like you guys pointed out, old cannibals are more attention getting than bird-men, so I could see a Hannibal Lector type Vulture.

Yeah, but he was in the Sinister Six! How did he get in there if SOMEONE didn't think he was some sort of threat? Maybe if Spider-Man was a seven year old Girl Scout, or wheelchair bound.

Maybe he was viewed as more of a threat back in the early days (since he is one of the first Spidey villains) when Peter was still sort of getting used to his powers & couldn't swing around New York outrunning helicopters?

Maybe... didn't he also lose that fight agains the old lady with the walker in that one issue? I mean, she was wearing a Fox costume, and could whip people with the tail... so...

I don't really have anywhere else to go with this. Any supervillain that has to duck out of a super-fight to change his Depends is not movie-worthy. They should do Electro or Lizard and Black Cat and call it a day.

I have a soft spot for Shocker  ;D

ANYWAYS the new 'rumor' is that the movie is put on 'indefinite hold' because Raimi and Sony can't compromise on a villian.  Apparently, Raimi wants Vulture and Sony wants whoever is doing the best in the comics right now.

Whatever, if they're too stupid to realize it shoudl be Lizard, then I probably won't even see it (and for ME to sat THAT about a SPIDER-MAN MOVIE, that says a lot)

I saw a piece about the controversy yesterday over at Marvelousnews but didn't have a chance to post it...You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login

I'd like to see Lizard too.  I managed to catch most of Spider-Man 3 this past week so I'm almost all caught up on the franchise and the way I see it, if they've spent this much time teasing fans with Dr. Conners, they really need to just put out.

They really need to pay off on that dangling thread. Hasn't Connors been in all three movies now? Or was it just the last two? He doesn't even necessarily need to be in the movie for long, in my opinion. He's a great example of the type of villain I was talking about, with the fight taking place to open the movie, and then concluding before the real plot starts up. JUST to give Dylan Baker his due! If they could also somehow frame an entire movie around him, great. But I'm still gunning for Electro in my heart of hearts.

This.

He was mentioned in the first one briefly, but appeared in 2 and 3.  Connors has always been one of my favorite Spider-man characters since I was a kid. It's been agony they have yet to give him his due here. However after 3, which I still very much enjoyed despite the jaw-droppingly poor handling, I really wish they wouldn't make another Spiderman flick. -_-;

Yeah, the first story I read with the Lizard in it was the Inferno tie-in waaaay back when. Todd McFarlane was still illustrating. Peter has to fight a flying shark in the Lincoln Tunnel, and then Curt Connors succumbs to the Lizard in order to fight off some demons and save his family. Of course The Lizard only complies in fighting off the demons so he can have the pleasure of killing his family himself. Spider-Man shows up to stop him at some point, I think. I just remember thinking how creepy the whole issue was, and how scary-dangerous the lizard looked. In my mind McFarlane's Lizard is still the definitive version.

Anyway, I think if they could do a good job making him very vicious as the lizard and very conflicted as Curt Connors, they could easily frame the whole film around him, and throw in the Black Cat as an interesting new character.

Nevermind.

I feel indifferent about it, to be honest.  If they weren't gonna do it right, then I'd prefer they not do it at all, so in the end it's fine with me.

Don't really know how to feel about the whole 're-boot' idea yet, but so far I'm not feelin it.

At least we won't have to worry about it until 2012.

And then all they'll do is parade out the same villains we've seen in these three Spider-Man movies all over again.

But to be really bluntly honest, I never really got that much into the Raimi films anyway. I thought heach movie had some really great moments, that if stitched all together would have made one really great Spider-Man movie... but the same could be said about all the terrible moments too.
