Spider-Man 4
« on: November 09, 2009, 09:06:22 PM »

News came out today that Rachel McAdams wants to be Black Cat in Spider-Man 4 (this timing is perfect, I just watched Spider-Man 3 Rifftrax today).  This got me thinking about the 4th movie again.

Some people have stated they're worried since they're will be 2 villians in it with Black Cat and they don't want the same mistake to happen again from Spidey 3.  But I believe, like some have mentioned, that Black Cat isn't really a villian- she's an 'anti-hero'/love interest that mostly toys with Peter/Spidey.  Add a little love triangle in the mix, that's part of what made the comics so great.  I don't necessarily like McAdams, but I'll settle for her if that means BC is in the next film.

And I pray to God that the Lizard is the villian.  For crying out loud, that should be a no-brainer by now!   >:(

(I want to take a guess and predict in the new movie Pete and MJ are still friends and taking things really slow, and he's seeing BC while figuring things out about MJ.......and then in the end Pete realizes that he loves MJ and they get back together...and in the 5th film they get hitched!  Take THAT Quesada!  :P  I swear to God if I ever meet that SOB I'm gonna make him autograph my Mary Jane wedding Barbie  ;D)

oh yeah and there are some rumors that they may film some of the movie in Detroit.....man I've gotta say that my home state has been getting A LOT of filming action lately, so I'm praying to God that this is true!!!!  I will be working down there by then so I'd be down by the  set every day!!!!!!  Make me an extra, make Spidey catch me or something lol ;D

See, I had no problem with multiple villains, I just think they did it wrong. Seirously, Venom should never have even appeared in the movie. You had too much going on. I think what would have worked better would have been to have had Dr. Octopus come back, since he's already established, keep him behind the scenes for most of the movie, and focus on the Sandman and New Goblin. Then as you realize Dr. Octopus is pulling all the strings from the shadows have Harry become Spidey's ally for the finale. I think a film focusing on the Lizard and Venom, with Black Cat as a new ally would have been a better match.

Green Goblin, Dr. Octopus, Venom, and Sandman have all gotten their spotlight, the only real major villains left are Electro and the Lizard.

I think a great way to include more crowd-pleasing villains would be to have them involved in less-plot intensive mini-fights. Maybe open the film with a brawl against the Rhino, who we don't see again.  Instead of a bank robber taking off with an armored truck as a distraction in the middle of the film, have the Vulture pop up and get taken care of quickly. Or maybe a montage to show how busy Spidey's been with snippets of battles between him and Shocker, Scorpion, White Rabbit, whoever... This would of course also lead to more TOYS!!!

I couldn't agree with you more- that's how multiple villians should be done!
What comes to my mind is the Spider-Man 2 videogame- I think they did that VERY WELL with the mulitple villians, and yet Doc Ock was still the main focus on the game.

I would love to see a super-villain montage!  But keep in mind, I'm also the guy that enjoyed seeing little cameos like Kitty Pryde in the first X-Men movie.

The only argument I can make against a super-villain montage is that the writer(s) may think that showing an army of costumed super-villains takes away from the "real world" type setting.  It's one thing to have the occasional lab accident or designer drug addict, but to have a guy dressed like a Rhino, a living Lizard, a flying Vulture, lightning bug Electro, fishbowl headed Mysterio or even characters like Boomerang, Beetle and Hydroman... it's hard to get into the mindset of living in that world.   As a compromise I suggest this: Spider-Man has to break up a costume party! No need to explain how someone got electricity powers or is tragically stuck in a Rhino suit... just a bunch of quick fights with people that LOOK like the characters we want.

Was the Spider-Man 2 video game any good?  The next game on my list to try is Ultimate Spider-Man, but if SM2 is any good, I might try it.

Edit: Oh, and congratulations msmarvel on starting the 500th topic!  We're also running pretty close to the 5000th post!

I do not claim to be a comic expert or even a novice but isn't Carnage a villain to Spiderman? If so that's who I have wanted to see since the first movie.

Oh yes! Carnage is like the whole of the 90's boiled down into one Spider-Man villain. And since we've seen Venom in the last one (and you may or may not know this, but in the comics, Carnage is sort of Venom's offspring) and they've definitely shown an acceptance of legacy-villains... I suppose Carnage isn't impossible... but I would have to say it is doubtful.

And I think, Clevername, that if done right, and in a bit less flashy a way, you could sustain the realism of a handful of villains, especially when you consider the realism of the first four feature villains. We've had make-out scenes in webs, an eight-story Sandman battle, and a Green Goblin who looks like a Power Rangers villain. I think a quick flash of Spidey knocking the tar out of a few weirdos would only help cement the bizarrity of Spidey's world, and work to move it a bit more into the ridiculous hyper-reality those movies seem to inhabit anyway.

Your Welcome!!!

P.S.- Spider-Man 2 is one of my FAVORITE video games of all time, let alone the best Spider-Man game, so definetly get it!  I also played Ultimate Spider-Man, but didn't like it as much as Spider-Man 2 (although it is very similar, so I would recommend that one as well).

It has TONS of villians and side missions (the side missions/helping civilians missions are totally optional, FYI: the sinking boat missions are a pain in the @$$ until you get the hang of them), you can literally go ALL OVER NY, do tons of stunts...I serioulsy could go on and on and on about this game.  I would just get the game so you can have Spidey jump off the top of the Empire State Building.  Letting him hit the ground or swing up at the very last second is up to you lol  ;D :D

Spider-Man 2 is better than Ultimate Spider-Man in terms of gameplay. USM just feels like a slightly watered down version of the Spider-Man 2.

But USM is still a good game, but Spider-Man 2 was excellent.

Carnage could be an interesting villain, and since they've already introduced Venom, Carnage is easy.  Just say he's a mutation, alternation, or next phase of Venom and voila.  I wonder if they'd tone down the violent serial killer aspect of his character or not though.

I played Spider-Man Web of Shadows, and while I think the storyline was pretty fun, I routinely found myself spending too much time swinging around looking for spider symbols and avoiding the real fights.

I was thinking the same thing. They didn't have Venom eat anyone's brains that I can recall... (he does that right? Eat brains? Maybe not) but with a name like Carnage and the whole blood-red oozing color scheme, NOT making him a homicidal maniac would sort of just turn him into Venom, right?

No Carnage.  I'd much rather have Lizard than Carnage.  If they do Carnage then maybe all the pissy mega-nerds who were upset about how Venom was handled in SM3 won't see it assuming they will butcher Carnage the same way.  Just an idea though.

I'd really rather see someone like Electro or Lizrd in the next one, honestly. Black Cat is welcome to join the party, but I personally think they ought to forego her origin story completely, and maybe save that for Spidey 5 if there is one. She can help out as long as she doesn't clutter things up too much.

I think (still break it out every now and again) Ultimate Spider-Man is a great game...then again, I've never played Spider-Man 2, so it could very well be better.

Lol, I think that if they bring Carnage into the movie world then I'm not gonna be satisfied until we've got all the symbiote offspring (all the way down to the sort of hero Toxin) in the movies.

I'd love to see some of the more street-level villains like Rhino, Electro, Shocker, and Lizard in the movies.
