Spectacular Spider-man
« on: October 22, 2009, 07:12:34 AM »

Is anyone else watching this? The second season came on a couple months back and then there was a long break, but it is back now, although on Wednesdays instead of Monday.

The pacing of this season is fantastic. Last night's episode, with the fight scenes under the opera music were incredible. I love the Gang war story that they are doing right now. I would say this and Brave and the Bold are tied for my favorite current cartoon.

My son and I wach this show. I really like it. I love the look of the animation. Very cool and stylized.

I have yet to see The Brave and the Bold. I have heard it is really good. I'll have to start DVRing it.

I've seen the first two seasons of Spectacular Spider-Man and constantly love it!

I own the 1st season and I think it's definitely the best Spidey cartoon ever.  I'm just happy they finally got to use Gwen and she's done by one of my favorite actresses...Lacey Chabert.  :)

I've seen a few episodes, but really haven't thought much of it.  I'm just not a huge Spidey fan.

I've only seen the first season but it was a nice ark.  From a purely fanboy standpoint, I wish the seasons were a little longer rather than breaking up certain things like the Goblin story (which is apparently resolved in season 2).  I guess I'm just nervous about how long it takes Marvel and the powers that be to announce new projects and new seasons so even though Season 2's already completely aired months ago outside the US, from what I understand, Season 3's still up in the air.

And for those interested, there's apparently a blossoming facebook group dedicated to keeping Spectacular Spider-Man alive.

So far no crazy campaigns of mailing Tabasco sauce or packages of nuts Marvel yet, but I expect those will be coming.

Another great episode last night. Although it is different than the comic, I like the way nearly all of the villains are getting their power from the same source.

I really hope they can get a third season out of this show.

I love, love, love this show.

I got into it really late, because I could NEVER get up early enough to watch it when it premiered, and that fact hurt so much because I was simply mesmerized by the art direction.

Now that it's been airing on Disney XD over here I FINALLY have gotten to see it, and I'm blown away. It's entertaining, it's funny ( I can't believe some of the jokes they get away with), and it's so top notch that this has to be the best Spiderman cartoon I've ever seen.

The thing that excites me the most though are the character designs. Sean Galloway did an amazing job redesigning all of these iconic characters.

LOVE the Lizard- I think it's the best design he's EVER had. Venom looks fantastic. The Goblin, Norman and Harry are all perfect in my opinion. But the one that really excites me is Octavius.
I've always had an odd kind of nerd crush on Otto... he's just so... weird and dorky... but this series takes it to a whole new level, AND makes him cool. I'm just completely in love with everything they've done for the doctor in this series... his looks, his personality, his voice - just utter perfection.  :-[

They did a Great job with Sandman, Electro and Mysterio as well. And I enjoy the direction they took with Kraven- sort of like the Ultimate series.

I think the voice director and/or whoever found all the talent deserves props too (sorry I never looked to see who it was, which is odd for me) because I really enjoy the voices and acting on this show. Never in a million years would I have thought to bring Steve Blum into the Goblin role- I love it.

The toyline is really spiffy too.  ;)

I would say the only one that I didn't feel like they improved on the initial concept woulf be Electro. You lose his face in the weirdness of the electric-head thing they're doing now. But all of these guys look awesome otherwise. I don't even really follow the show, I just really like the stylization of the characters.

One note about Toy Fair that is not going to make the Save Spectacular Spider-Man folks happy: no new Spectacular Spider-Man stuff was shown, and the Oscorp Ooze Factory sets that were manufactured under the Spectacular brand are now just under "Spider-Man".

I noticed that too...  :(
It seems that the series may be over and perhaps thats why Hasbro decided to stop making figures too
Sucks because this was an awesome show that spawned awesome toys.  I want a Mysterio and Kraven!

Volumes 6 and 7 came out today on DVD.  They have 3 episodes a piece on them.  Episodes 5-10 of Season 2.

Unfortunately, I think all the network and time shifting really hurt a great show here.  I was watching it on either FOX or CW when it came out and then they stopped showing cartoons altogether.  Both networks used to have nearly identical programming, then I was left with a bunch of Ninja Turtle and Sonic the Hedgehog reruns.  Why they filled the remaining programming with extra Turtles instead of just putting Spider-Man in there is beyond me.  Then there was the long span between seasons and a move to Disney XD that I don't think a lot of people knew about.  Then there was the whole fiasco with the DVD releases.  They put out one in edited "movie" form, then took like half a year to put out the second volume in "episode" form.  Then, after about a year of buying these things for $15 a pop because they said there were no plans for season sets, they put out season one a month later for $19!!!  This was a great show, but a real victim as far as scheuling consistency.  Just a whole lot of weird moves that frustrated me.
