More Super Hero Squad Video Game News
In additional Super Hero Squad video game news, you can check out the official site with pictures of Thor, Juggernaut, Thing, Magneto, Dr. Doom, Wolverine (in what looks like the Savage Land, at least from the dinosaurs behind him), Hulk, some AIM soldiers, and even a Valhalla backdrop! Storm and Spider-Man are featured on the site art, and Spider-Man (and Iron Man, and the weird spikey-haired version of Sabretooth) has also been seen in the video game trailer mentioned earlier in the week. And you can also visit THQ for the screenshots, while Businesswire is one of the many places to read the THQ press release which explains the number of playable characters and play styles…
Set in the ever popular Marvel Universe, the Super Hero Squad is on a dire mission against Dr. Doom’s Lethal Legion of villains to recover the hidden Infinity Fractals; fragments of the all-powerful Infinity Sword. Each Infinity Fractal holds incredible power and can have significant effects on its possessor, giving each character special abilities that could alter the game’s rules and playing field. With more than 20 Marvel characters to mix and match, players can choose to take on the role of their favorite Super Heroes and Super Villains, such as Captain America, Dr. Doom, Falcon, Hulk, Iron Man, Juggernaut, Ms. Marvel, Silver Surfer, Thing, Thor and Wolverine, to name a few. Using character-specific super powers and customized combo attacks, players will blast, punch, and bash in fast-moving combat with their nemesis. Players can either jump into a battle arena against up to three opponents in Battle Mode, or choose to relive six campaigns as depicted from the animated series in Adventure Mode. Marvel Super Hero Squad is an immersive, single and multiplayer game filled with dramatic, interactive environments where players are given extraordinary powers to fight for good or evil, depending on which Super Hero Squad character they chose to play as.

Super Hero Squad Video Game and Cartoon News
IGN has an interview with the Super Hero Squad cartoon’s writer Mark Hoffmeier on the upcoming show and video game, which he says it’s like “a playable lost episode of the series”. There’s mention that Spider-Man is off-limits due to contract exclusivity (which is nice to finally hear) and that he thinks “a lot of it just depends on how Marvel negotiates its deals” (which is sadly the reason why we can have Wolverine and Iron Man appearing contemporaneously in their own shows). It also includes a pretty handy summary of the video game:
So what’s the basic setup for the story in the game?
Mark: It’s the same basic setup for the series. Doctor Doom is out to collect fractals of the Infinity Sword and they’re referred to as Infinity Fractals. The backstory on the series and the game is that Doom was trying to get possession of the sword, but Iron Man and the Hero Squad intervened and stopped him. Shards of fractals reigned down over the whole world and so throughout the series Iron Man will detect one, Doctor Doom will detect one, and then they’ll battle to get these shards. In the game what’s different is that Doom is trying to collect enough of them to create a miniature Infinity Sword. At one point in the game, he will actually succeed in doing that and the Super Hero Squad will have to stop him. What’s great is that you’re not going to get to see that in the series in the same way you get to see it in the game.

News News News!
Well, there are a few bits of news that have surfaced today and your friendly neighborhood Wwwyzerd is here to let you know about it.
First, those people lucky enough to have their Marvel Universe wave 4 figures already have seen an insert talking about the Mail-Away Nick Fury figure. Apparently it says that if you want the Nick Fury figure, you’ll have to buy a subscription to Marvel’s Digital Comics service. However, it also says that for full details we should check www.marvel.com/nickfury on the 1st, so hopefully there’ll also be a mail-away alternative to the Digital Comics subscription. Another interesting thing about this is that the figure’s already been showing up on eBay from people overseas like in this auction.
Marvelousnews has a first look at the upcoming Super Hero Squad game from THQ here. All in all, it looks like it probably won’t disappoint, so good stuff there.
In other SHS news, Toyark has images on an upcoming Danger Room Playset for everyone’s favorite tiny super hero line.
Cool stuff! Make sure you head on over to the board to discuss all this Marvel-y goodness!
Shocker Toys SDCC 2009 Dick Tracy Figures
The fine folks at Shocker Toys sent along a press release with some great promotional shots of the upcoming SDCC exclusive Dick Tracy black and white variants. For those not in the know, many of us here at the Rumorbuster are fans of America’s first, and possibly greatest, detective who is currently closing in on 80 years of publication. IDW has been doing a great job publishing the original strips, and has reached volume 7 in their reprints, while the daily strip keeps plugging along.
As for the toys themselves, there’s two versions, a tommy gun toting variant and a suited handgun version, but both version of the dapper gent will also have colorized versions in Shocker Toys upcoming second wave of Indie Spotlight figures (which are up for pre-order and as of now scheduled to ship in August/September).
The full collection of pictures from the press release are up over on the gallery so you can check them out. In the meantime, here’s a sample of what’s to come:
