Wave 9 added to the Gallery
Clanure has added Wave 9 to the Gallery. Am I the only person that didn’t know Captain America’s shield was detachable? Anyway, go and enjoy Blade, Red Skull, the Sentry, Electro and the rest!
Meet the Super Hero Squad in February?
Just came across these today and it doesn’t look like much info is known about them but here’s what we’ve got:
Super Hero Squad Digest
ISBN: 0785136444
Paperback: 96 pages
Published by: Marvel Comics
Price: $7.99
Amazon also adds the following information:
Publisher: Marvel Comics (February 4, 2009)
Language: English
ISBN-10: 0785136444
ISBN-13: 978-0785136446
Meet the Super Hero Squad!
ISBN: 0316055719
Board book: 12 pages
Published by: L,B Kids
Price: $7.99
Marvel’s page at LB-Kids is rather empty right now but will likely fill out a little more when some additional information comes up.
So there you go! What any of this means is up in the air. What is known is that there were a series of board books (the books printed on thick cardboard for easy flipping by little hands) for the Spider-Man and Friends line so it may be similar in style to those books, while the Super Hero Squad Digest seems a little small compared to most other Marvel all-ages digest books, clocking in at only 96 pages, but it’s a little large to simply be a reprint of the one announced Super Hero Squad one-shot and the semi-regular strips (17 strips in 30-ish days, some of which will also be collected in the one-shot anyway).
Speaking of the strips… has Wolverine’s Easy to Keep Happy been broken for everyone else too?
Marvel Minimates Wave 25 and 26
Many months ago, in a post now relegated to the infinite abyss of the archives, I posted a link to an article counting the ways in which Marvel Minimates were likely dead. Similar theories pop up all the time, as fans of both Super Hero Squad figures and Marvel Legends figures know. Anyway, Marvelousnews.com has this news about Marvel Minimates series 25 and 26 figures. Figures are:
New Captain America & Red Skull, Red Hulk & Ska’ar, AIM Soldier & Classic Iron Man with a limited variant Bolt-Face Iron Man
and
Wolverine & Deadpool, Gambit & Psylocke, Skrull & Sabretooth plus the limited First Appearance Sabretooth variant!
Which are some great selections! Unless I’m wrong, this is a first appearance for Gambit, Psylocke, Deadpool, Red Skull, Skaar, Rulk, the AIM Soldier and the Bucky/Winter Soldier version of Captain America. Now if only the Super Hero Squad figures could get Havok, Polaris, Nova, Firestar and Silver Sable!
Up Close With the Sentry
Clanure’s posted pictures of the Sentry over at the Gallery. Apparently Wave 9 is showing up country-wide, so if you’re like me and still haven’t found any, keep hunting.
Cryptic Hints from Hasbro
In the November Q&A ActionFigs.com had with Hasbro about their various Marvel toy lines, a Hasbro representative gave us a very cryptic clue about a character that will be in one of the waves of Marvel Universe (or 3.75″) figures during 2009.
ActionFigs: A while back we were told that the Marvel team had finalized Wave 4 of the 3 3/4″ Marvel Universe line. And were hard at work on Wave 5. Since it’s a long time until the debut of the line, is there any chance we could get an update on who’s coming in Wave 4? Something to wet our appetite and give us something new to talk about until the line debutes in March.
Hasbro: If it were up to me I’d spill it all, but I crack easily under pressure. I’ll give you one brand new 2009 character hint, but that’s it. “We now know that he wasn’t what he appeared to be back in the day”. Discuss amongst yourselves.
Based on that hint, it could be just about anyone depending on how you interpret it. Could they mean the Sentry because he was an archetypal superhero “back in the day” (in the character’s history), but now is a bit schizophrenic? Could they mean Captain Marvel (Mar-Vell) because the one seen in the comics lately have been a Skrull who believed he was the Kree hero? What about Hawkeye since when he first showed up, the Avengers thought he was a criminal, but has since been a long-time hero in the Marvel U? Or maybe Hank Pym in one of his many costumes since he’s been one of the most infamous heroes to be replaced with a Skrull during the Secret Invasion? Who knows? I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
Must Own Punisher!
In both Superhero Times November Hasbro Q&A and Kastor’s Korner Hasbro included this cryptic comment:
we thought we’d drop you a hint about the upcoming Punisher figure in Wave 1 of Universe. If you see one on shelf, you might want to consider adding it to your collection…that’s all we’ll say…
What that means… well… I guess we’ll find out. Other tidbits:
Superhero Times: Making a Darkhawk figure is a “when” question, not an “if”, and the Marvel Universe line should have curveballs (meaning unexpected characters) and Hasbro says Classic Ms. Marvel is an example of one of those curveballs.
Kastor’s Korner: When asked about SHS Army Builders Hasbro says “Yes, in fact there is a SHIELD / Skrull 2 pack coming out in the very near future” (but, it’s worth noting that the Nick Fury/Skrull pack was Agent/Soldier in the leaked SKUs, so who knows if they mean there’s a second, totally separate SHIELD/Skrull 2-pack, or if it’s an alternate to the Fury/Skrull pack or just about anything else.
And on Marvel Universe (a.k.a. Fury Files) figures, Hasbro says there are at least 34 single-carded figures for 2009 plus “fun surprises” along the way, and that the Hulk movie figures “will live together” with Marvel Universe figures in a diorama, but aren’t the same line.
So that’s great news for a bunch of people, and hopefully multi-figure packs will add on to Marvel’s 3 3/4 figure count for 2009 because Mattel’s already managed to pop out 17 single-carded Infinite Heroes figures in around 3 months and if they make good on the promise of better articulation, DC’s army of heroes are going to be beating down Marvel’s merry men.
Pictures of Wave 9
Clanure has posted pictures of Wave 9 over in the Message Board for anyone interested. No luck at any of the Wal-Marts near me but good luck to everyone out there hunting!
